i still need to find some cute little knobs to replace the brass ones.
the color is: benjamin moore wedgewood gray and i had it mixed in their soft gloss. i purchased 1 quart and used a little over half of it.
its such a soothing blend between blue and gray.....leaning more toward the blue.
i was happy to find out that once i lifted the piano face up i found a built in 'prop' which is used when it gets tuned. the little wooden prop worked out perfectly for holding the face up and painting the little spaces. my other 'prop' was boone's book :)
here is the piano in the beginning
to see the before of the chair with yellow and white fabric look here....
i am adding this post to met monday over at between naps on a porch.....head on over for a lot more fun makeover posts!

Wow, wow, wow!!! I love it!!! It's so hip now.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous!! You had me at "Painted Piano"
ReplyDeleteI have even wanted to get one of the free ones off of Craigslist, just to paint it. And I don't even play.
YOu did an amazing job!!
Alyshia
What a great job. I paint everything, but painting a piano seems very hard! I've always heard that paint can change to tone of the piano...? Anyway, I love the way it looks! So much better. I've signed up to follow your blog and I'd love it if you'd pay mine a visit. God Bless!
ReplyDeletethanks ladies for all the nice compliments! ....the piano is a bit out of tune (not bad) so i'm not sure i would notice a tone change ~lol~ :) :)
ReplyDeletesurprisingly, it wasn't too bad to accomplish. i did use a combo of a mini roller, a sponge brush, a regular paint brush and a couple of the kids' tiny brushes.
Um, I totally want a piano now.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful job!
It looks beautiful. Such a soft color.I love it!
ReplyDeletethis is gorgeous! I love it and want it! :)
ReplyDeleteso pretty!
ReplyDeleteWow - you are so brave to paint a piano, but it definitely paid off! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteO. My. Goodness! I shoulda never came here;) I just got the cutest piano on craigslist for 50 bucks...and I said I wasn't going to touch it, when my neighbor asked was I going to paint THAT too! Now I'm thinking maybe yes!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
That was a brave thing to do and it turned out great! We once had a piano that I was itching to paint but I was afraid it would some how affect the sound so I never did. Your's is sensational!
ReplyDeleteManuela
Go you!
ReplyDeleteBeen staring at my hand me down piano for years wondering if I should/could paint it. You have pushed me over the edge, my dear. I'll be taking care of that this weekend. One question...Did you sand it first, or just prime it?
ReplyDeletedeidra.....i can't wait to see yours!! okay...i did NOT sand the piano at all. i left it in my living room even :) i did not want to risk little particles of sand getting in the piano.
ReplyDeletei did let the primer sit overnight. and there are a good 2 coats on the piano of color 3 coats in some places.
hope that helps!
Looks fab! I would take my mom's old piano that she's been trying to get rid of if she would let me paint it, but I know she would not like that idea at all!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI once spray painted a piano; we created a "room" by hanging plastic dropcloths from the ceiling. I had to hold my breath, dive in and spray, and jump back out to get another breath.
Yours looks much nicer!
Hi there! I caught a ride over from Kimba's and am glad I did! I have a piano that looks very similar to your before picture :). It has no sentimental value, and I think you just gave me the encouragement I needed to paint it! It's been in the back of my mind... I love the color you chose!
ReplyDeleteSO pretty! You are brave, and it really paid off. Love it!
ReplyDeleteFirst time visitor from the Nesters...fellow homeschool mom of five blessings - so thrilled i found you. We have the same brown piano. I've seen one other person paint there's and now I am sold. I must paint it..after my twenty other spray paint jobs. :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from DIY day...we have a piano that is hiding because everything else is painted wood in the house. I have thought of painting ours but it seemed like a pain...but now that i have seen yours, it might just be worth it!
ReplyDeleteFabulous job!
ReplyDeleteMy parents are bringing me a piano in a few weeks, and I'm really thinking of painting it. My only issue is that I don't want to cover up the maker's mark (cheesy, but it was made in Detroit, and I live in Ohio, and it makes me think of home...), I noticed you primed around the mark on your piano. Did you paint over it in the end? :)
okay all of you piano owners who want to paint.....if you do it please please come back and let me know!! i'd love to see :)
ReplyDeletealanna....i did not paint over the other plaque. it's hiding in my 'after' pictures but it's not painted over. i don't think that is cheesy at all to want to save that mark....even if it's "boxed" out and painted around and doesn't "go" it sure would tell a good story!!! :)
oh...and to Embellished Bayou.....i told my mom AFTER i started painting :) and when i told my one sister i was going to paint it the first thing she said was: "did you ask mom" we of course laughed and i said "no" :) p.s. my mom LOVES it! :)
Wow, that looks fantastic. I won't be able to look at another piano at the flea market without thinking of buying and painting it!
ReplyDeleteYour piano looks great! I laughed at the other commenter who spray painted her piano and had to duck in and out to get some fresh air. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about painting mine for a year now, and I'm glad to get confirmation from you that I don't need to move my piano or sand it. (Two things that are not going to happen)
I"m impressed you got this done and have 5 little kids. Hey, I've only got two kids, and have 2 weeks left till my due date. Maybe I could squeeze this project in before the baby arrives!
OMGEEE...this is fabulous!!! My grandmother's piano is out of tune and the outside is so abused (some relative obviously tried to duct tape the bench before it got to me). I think this is an affordable alternative to having it refinished.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!!
I love it! and your family is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteoh how i want to do this. i have the piano and am hoping to down grade to a smaller one and DO THIS. i love it!!! thanks for the inspiration. LOVE IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBravo, this brilliant idea is necessary just by the way
ReplyDeleteHi! I found my way over here from another blog and I hope you don't mind me stopping by. This piano is just too cute for words! The color you picked out is absolutely perfect. I just love your house!
ReplyDeleteDid you have to use any special sort of primer to adhere to the (most-likely) glossy surface? Congrats on our project, it looks great!!
ReplyDeletegreat job the piano looks beautiful
ReplyDeleteYou have given me the inspiration to paint my baby grand! I am a decorative artist and I have painted everything, but was a litte scared to touch this one. I just have to figure out the right color - I think it has to be some Lind of pink - but I know my husband will have his eyebrows up in the air when I suggest this!
ReplyDeleteThanks...
Linda
